Alexander Stepanovich Osipenko
Alexander Stepanovich Osipenko (Александр Степанович Осипенко) was born 1 June (19 May OS) 1910 (or possibly 1912〔) at Tursevo Kula, Grand Duchy of Finland, in the Russian Empire. He was a Soviet military aviator and (by one reckoning) the Red Air Force's leading ace in the Spanish Civil War.
==Early life==
Osipenko was born at Tursevo Kula, in what is now Finland prior to the First World War. In 1918 he was living with his family in Smolensk and in 1929 joined the Soviet Air Force, rising to the position of squadron leader in 1937.〔
